Wrapping Up the Season...

Well, that's a wrap on the regular football season for Auburn! We did lose quite badly against Alabama and well...there may be more hearts broken than just the fans with that lost. :( We will have a bowl game and I look forward to going with my dad! Blake and I actually got to tailgate all morning before the game and then his parents surprised us with their tickets! They were really sweet to give up 50 yard line tickets for the biggest game of the year-the Iron Bowl! We had a blast before the lost of the season!

On a side note, I had a wonderful Thanksgiving. We missed my brother, Kenneth, but managed not to burn the house down. We had our first ever fried turkey. It was delicious! Dad got a new fryer for his anniversary gift and actually-it was only 40 calories for once slice of fried turkey. I was amazed! The sides though-were a whole other story. My mom made a cute little turkey cake. :)

I hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving! I am so blessed and so thankful for many things that I could write all day! God has blessed me and I don't see how he puts up with me everyday! He has a lot  of forgiveness, ;). Now, back to reality, it is my last day of Thanksgiving Break, and I dread going back to work....this break has flown by! Now it is back to working on centers, grading papers, and planning! I took all this stuff home with me to work on and I'm just now getting to it...(don't judge)...I wanted to enjoy my break! It is suppose to be a break from work. I love my kiddos but I don't want to get burned out!!

Now...the house is spotless and time for Christmas decorating! Hope you are having a wonderful day and may you be blessed through out the week...whether you're learning a lesson or enjoying life! :)

2011 Birthday Celebration

I just recently turned 28 and well....when you're past 21....then all you can do is smile and celebrate your birthday the entire week! That is what I did! I am so grateful for wonderful parents, a fantastic boyfriend, and fabulous friends to celebrate my birthday week! They helped to make it such a joyous and fun week! Here's the throw down:

Monday 11/14: Blake took me out to eat at Hamiltons. Mmmm...I had the sea scallops and pumpkin cheesecake! Delicious! His parents joined us later for dessert.

Tuesday 11/15: I celebrated with my parents and Blake came over. We had Outback. I got my new iPhone 4s (LOVE!), some fabulous jewelry my mother made, and this AMAZING cake to represent my blog! Blake gave me an amazing birthday gift that he paid for himself...but I'm afraid PETA may come after me!! (The photo is at the bottom.)

Wednesday 11/16: Nothing too exciting..just worked at the church and fed over 300 people.

Thursday 11/17: Girls Night Out! We ate at the new restaurant downtown Opelika, Ma Fia's, delicious!, and then went to Sips n Strokes. My best friends are amazing and I could not be more blessed!

Friday 11/18: We had a birthday celebration at school and we all finished off the wonderful cake that my mom made and the kids loved it! That evening, a bunch of us all went out to eat at the Irish Bred Pub and they surprised me with a free bread pudding! I had so much fun with all the amazing couples!

I am so blessed in countless ways and had a wonderful time celebrating. This will continue into years to come...haha...I loved every minute of it! War Eagle! I'm praying for a win tomorrow and have faith in my tigers but we shall see! :) Beat Bama!

25th Surprise!

My boyfriend's family is one of the sweetest families I have ever known! His parents recently celebrated their 25th Wedding Anniversary at the country club. It was a complete surprise for Mrs. Celeste. Mr. Barry did an outstanding job on decorations, cake, and flowers! He practically thought of everything. It was such a joy to be part of this special evening with such a special family. The food was AMAZING! The chef from Christophers  is now at the country club! Mrs. Celeste's motto is to laugh at things in life (she said it better) and to enjoy it! This is one gorgeous family! Their style is so unique and "in"...I have a hard time keeping up! This is one of the most giving and loving families. This family has touched my heart in so many ways and are so supportive. The Dormans make me feel like I'm part of their family. They accept me for who I am, quiet and all. ;)

 Beautiful Family

 My sweet boyfriend!

Have a wonderful Veteran's Day and remember those who have and still are serving our country. We can talk all we want about politics but until we walk the walk, we need to remember these wonderful men and women! We need to thank them and continue to pray for them daily because they are of such bravery! I could never image being in their shoes. Thank you to those who serve our country, the real heroes, of our country that stand up for us citizens every day!

Teaching Outside the Box

Before I even start this post, I've already been side tracked! Aubie made it to our school and I am in love! He came last Friday and ran the show! I tried to up load the video but it won't work for me. I hope I can get it to work soon. :) The kids were still talking about Aubie this past week! It made me smile to know that they enjoyed it so much and it meant the world to them.

Now, back to the real reason why I'm posting. I just got back from the Alabama Reading Association Reading Conference in Montgomery and boy was I. INSPIRED. Debbie Silver was the speaker during the morning session and even though I wasn't feeling well, God was tugging me to go, because if you know me, I don't do well sitting for two hours. But did Debbie have me enthralled in her story of teaching 30+ years! She was not only hilarious, but real and inspiring.

I know teaching is meant for me but lately I've been burnt out. I feel that sometimes my students aren't getting the best from me because I'm being "tied down" to a "program" or "following a certain schedule." I feel that schools (all over the nation) are losing the real reason for teaching-it isn't the assessments or standardized tests or cramming a hundred standards within nine weeks, but it is teaching outside the box. It is spending time with the kids and letting them know that you "care" about them in more ways than just an academic standpoint.  I know my kids know that I care about them because if they had a choice, they would hug me all day and every day and I do get tired of all the touching but I just need to let them hug me. They need that attention and motivation.

My administrators, school system, and co workers are AMAZING! I love where I teach and I love how they care about the kids, but it is from the political stand point that drives me nuts. I'm not going to get into it because it just frustrates me and I feel that our society isn't going in the right direction with educations. Someone at the conference said,"That teachers are of the most intellectual groups of people that are treated so unprofessionally. " That is so true! We are told how to do our job from people (politicians) that have no idea about what kids need now days. I bet half their kids don't even attend a public school. Anyways, getting back to my point, Debbie Silver really reminded me that I am in that classroom with my students and I am the only one that truly knows them and how to inspire them. That there is nothing wrong with getting to know my kids and letting them be individuals. I do this anyways but feel that if I do it too much then I'm going to get in trouble, but I can't let that hold me back.

I've got a whole new out look on Monday and I can't wait to see my kiddos! I am going to really get to know them and so what if it takes up some time from reading or writing. I want these kids to walk away from our classroom with them really knowing that I truly care about them and their lives. I know I do it anyways but Debbie Silver gave me the inspiration to do it and not be afraid. I know I've always been a "different" teacher and I work hard for them to learn what they need to know. God is just so amazing and has shown me today that I can do it and to not let the politicians or programs keep me from what I know is best in giving my students what they need and want.
